Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. That’s how I feel about the upcoming sequel Left 4 Dead 2. With a $50 price tag I feel as though Valve is taking gamers for a ride, again.
Last year I wrote about how I thought the original Left 4 Dead was overpriced, calling it “ a glorified Source Mod” and I feel no different about Left 4 Dead 2. L4D2 promises 5 new maps, 20 new weapons/items and a few new zombie types. Is that really worth $50? If anything L4D2 is more like an expansion then a completely new game and should be priced as such.
One of the selling points on the L4D2 website states “New story“. Um, did I miss something, what was the old story?
I’m not one of those gamers that are boycotting L4D2 because I feel Valve is not delivering on its promises for free DLC (downloadable content), I’m not buying it because its not a full game and way overpriced. Although it seems I’m in the minority on this one as it was recently reported that pre-order sales for L4D2 are the highest Valve has ever had.
Regardless, I will not be buying L4D2. Don’t get me wrong, I do like L4D and will probably pick up the sequel eventually, but I’ll wait until Steam has one of those 50% off sales before I do.
