Participants at this year’s PAX have the opportunity to check out a 10-minute demo of BioShock 2 and I tell ya, it doesn’t disappoint.
The game takes place several years after the first BioShock. The demo starts off with you waking up and finding out that you’re a Big Daddy. Yes, you get to play as one in the sequel….but not just any Big Daddy. In fact, you’re the prototype Big Daddy. While you have access to the Big Daddy’s classic weapons such as the drill, you also can use plasmids. As a Big Daddy, you can also breathe underwater, which means that you can now explore the ocean outside of Rapture, which is pretty awesome.
A Big Daddy isn’t complete without his Little Sister. In the demo, you encounter one that’s being attacked by a Splicer. After disposing of the Splicer, you have the choice of Harvesting or Adopting the Little Sister. The demo showed the Big Daddy Adopting her, and putting her on his shoulder. As a Big Daddy, you and your Little Sister work as a team to find that precious, precious ADAM. Once your Little Sister finds a source of ADAM, you both must be careful. Since ADAM attracts Splicers, your Little Sister is vulnerable while she extracts it. The demo showed the Big Daddy setting up plasmid traps around a room then setting them on fire to protect the Little Sister in the middle of the room. Any splicer that walked in the traps was set ablaze.
The demo ended with the Big Daddy getting owned by the mysterious, strong, and extremely agile Big Sister, who is as connected to the Little Sisters as you are.
