During E3 2009 Microsoft announced Last.fm as one of the new services that will be available to Xbox Live users in the Fall. Last.fm is a music service that takes music that you play from your Xbox 360 and automatically recommends similar songs from the Last.fm community. It’s basically large community that shares its tastes in music with others through a totally automated process.
A solid release date has yet to be revealed but Joystiq has spoken with a general manager of Xbox Live, Christina DeRosa, about how subscribing to this service will work. DeRosa revealed that Xbox Live Silver members will have access to Last.fm for only three hours every month. Gold members will have unlimited access to Last.fm 24 hours a day. However both Gold and Silver members will be subject to watching advertisements unless they opt for Last.fm’s premium service for an extra $3 monthly fee.
