These days we need more bang for our buck. We need games that last well after the plastic seal on the case is broken. With digital distribution we now have the opportunity to keep playing the games we love while avoiding the temptation to trade them in for newer titles. Today we’re going to share a few games that we think are well worth our time and money. They’ve passed the test of time and hopefully will continue to be relevant well into the future.
Burnout Paradise (PS3, Xbox 360, PC)
Burnout Paradise is one of the best values you can find in the videogame world. For $19.99 you get more game than you can handle. Criterion Games have given gamers many free updates that change the face of Paradise City such as Codename: Bogart, Codename: Cagney and the bikes pack that added new gameplay modes and new vehicles. If that’s still not enough, Criterion also release premium content that delivered Toy Cars, Legendary Cars, Party Mode, Boost Specials and the totally new environment of Big Surf Island. This is hands down the perfect game for those on a budget.
Call of Duty: World at War (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
The World War II scene is getting a little old, but killing your friends in online deathmatches is not. The single player campaign in WaW is actually very good. The game features excellent voice acting from Kiefer Sutherland and Gary Oldman who played your superiors in the American and Soviet storylines. However the games longevity derives from its multiplayer content. Since its release, WaW has spawned two map packs that include three new competitive multiplayer arenas and one Nazi Zombie map. It’s always in the top ten most played multiplayer games on Xbox Live and more maps are more than likely on the way.
Left 4 Dead (Xbox 360, PC)
The debate on whether Left 4 Dead needs a sequel is still going on but until L4D2 releases we have to take full advantage of what we have now. L4D is perfect for hours of mindless, zombie killing mayhem. The experience is hardly ever the same twice thanks to the director A.I. and PC gamers have tons of mods to play around with. Valve has released some free content updates for L4D and just may continue to support it in the future. When you play L4D with friends online, the fun factor outweighs most competitors.
Fallout 3 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)
Surviving in a post apocalyptic wasteland has never been so fun. In its original form, Fallout 3 can literally go on for over 100 hours. There’s so many side quests and secrets to find in this game it’s baffling. The game also alters drastically depending on whether you decide to play as a good or evil vault dweller. The downloadable episodes is what really puts Fallout 3 over the top. So far four episodes have been released on Xbox 360 and PC for 800 MS points each and one more is on the way. You can probably pick this game up for less than $60 by now and it’ll be worth every single penny.
