May 5, 2009 2:03 pm by Mike Since X-men Origins: Wolverine just came out I thought it would be fun to take a look down memory lane to remember some of the best X-men games and some not so great. I’m actually surprised how many of these games I’ve played, I didn’t even know there were so many X-men games. Sorry I didn’t include any handheld titles
X-Men Legends 1 & 2
Aside from the movie video games, the X-Men Legends series is the most recent X-men games to come out even though they’re already pretty old. I’m kinda surprise there hasn’t been another sequel to this series. Aside from being the most recent X-Men games they’re also the two highest rated X-Men games ever according to gamerankings.com
X-Men: Children of the Atom & X-Men vs. Street Fighter
I must of spent $100 in quarters playing these two games when they first came out in the arcade. Yes, we had arcades back then. Both great fighting games and the first cross over that I can remember.
X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse
Going way back now to Super Nintendo we have X-Men: Mutant Apocalypse, probably one of the hardest games I’ve every played. It might not the best X-Men game out there, but it was still fun.
X-Men & X-Men 2: Clone Wars
Not to be outdone by Nintendo, Sega had it’s own X-Men games on the Genesis. I played the first one a bit at a friends house since I was a Nintendo kid and the only thing I could think of was of how much better it was than the game listed above this one.
X-Men: Mutant Academy 1 & 2 + Xmen: The Next Dimension
I never actually played any of these, but it looks like they were trying to get into the 3D fighter arena with these set of games. Mutant Academy 1 & 2 did pretty well review wise, however Next Dimension received horrible reviews so it’s probably a good thing I never played it.
Spider-Man & the X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge
Easily the worst game on this list, Arcade’s Revenge was the first X-Men game I can remember playing and it was horrible.
X-Men Arcade
You guessed it, X-Men Arcade was an arcade only game back in the day that allowed 4 player co-op. One of my favorite arcade games.
X-Men: The Official Game & X-Men Origins: Wolverine
I saved the movie games for last since…well they’re movie games. I can’t say I’ve played either of these games as I tend to stay away from movie games like the plague. While the Official Game received horrible reviews, so far it seems Origins is getting decent scores. I guess for 75-80% scores for a movie game is ok.
