Not one, but TWO major gaming sites have come out in the last few hrs to let us, the gamers, know that Final Fantasy VII was actually a bad game. Phew, thank god we have gaming sites out there to clear this up for us, because up until now I’ve been thinking FF7 was actually a good game, but what do I know, I’m just a gamer.
First we have IGN with there article “Is Final Fantasy VII Overrated“, then thankfully G4TV clears it up for the lazy readers who don’t want to read the whole article with their video “Your Childhood Sucks: Final Fantasy VII“. Why did two separate major gaming sites decided to bash a beloved RPG as FF7 at basically the exact same time? Coincidence? I think not, there’s something sinister going on here. Maybe Square Enix didn’t invite them to check out there new FF game or maybe it’s the same writer who works for both companies and has a grudge against FF7 cause he could never beat the Weapons. Perhaps Square Enix told them to write these articles because they hate FF7 because everytime a new FF game comes out everyone says it’s still not as good as FF7.
What ever the reason, they can shove it. FF7 was not my first RPG, but it was the first RPG I actually cared about the characters and regardless of what the media says it is and will always be one of the best RPGs of all-time.

[...] one of the best RPGs of all-time, but people have been bashing it lately for some reason. GameOnn pointed out earlier today that G4TV and IGN bashed the game hard today. Is there some kind of [...]
It’s simple - the cool thing to do these days is to bash anything with merit or anything that a good number of people enjoy. We all know that FFVII is a fantastic game. All the more reason to hate on it! Good read. I agree wholeheartedly with you.
Final Fantasy VII still is my favorite RPG of all time. I think that whoever did the writing and claimed it was a bad game has no life and apparently hates all that’s good.
Final Fantasy VII is overrated, though that doesn’t mean it’s horrible. Far from it. I think it has a special place in the hearts of many as their first real RPG. It did a lot of things for really the first time, beautiful cut scenes, garish limit break attacks, huge summoned creatures to fight by your side, etc. It was the first RPG to really take advantage of the PS1 hardware.
But, looking at the other FF games, for instance, it doesn’t even hold a candle to FFIII(FFVI in Japan, I think.). FFIII is, to me, perhaps the best RPG of all time, right up there with the likes of Phantasy Star II and Chrono Trigger. FFVII drew me in, just like it did others, but in retrospect I would have to agree that it is at least a little overrated.
A lot of these articles have been coming out lately and its really insane to hate on this game.IMO it is an overrated game but I still love it. The story line and characters alone was amazing and the game is truly a gem.
They can hate all they want but in reality the game is epic. We def got spoiled in the 90’s. Until the “next gen” consoles can make a decent RPG, all these “writers” can suck it!
I don’t get it: people are acting like it’s wrong to dislike certain games. I played Chrono Cross for the PS1 just a few months ago for the first time, and I loved it. Then I played FFVII, and… it’s just not that great. I’m not biased by graphics or music or whatever: most of my favorite games are from the 80s and 90s, and only a few are from today’s stuff. It just wasn’t that interesting to me: there wasn’t any real gripping mystery to solve (the only thing that was marginally interesting to me was Cloud’ memory loss, but that is so cliche, even for the time, I really couldn’t bring myself to care), there weren’t interesting locales to visit (it was all post-apocalyptic future stuff, seen one, kinda seen them all), the dialogue was translated badly (even fans of FFVII admit the translation from the original Japanese is not good). I got past the 1st disc (Aeris death was pretty sad) , but didn’t have any desire to continue
I don’t get why FFVII is heralded as the best RPG ever, when it’s full of so many flaws… I’m slightly jealous of those who worship it, I’d like to know hy they enjoyed it so much
Nothing is better than final fantasy especialy 7 and 4 and tactics
those are the best games ever
